Now, this particular interview was definitely one of my favourites. In this episode, we got to meet with Crystal Benson, a true entrepreneur at heart, and a kick-ass human being! Crystal is not only a serial entrepreneur, but an amazing person with some real core values behind her.
When I sat down with Crystal for the interview, we had nothing planned. As a matter of fact, we met for brunch with no intention of podcasting. BUT you mix a little of her personality with mine, and goals begin to get kicked! We ended up chatting over brunch and decided that we were on such a roll, we should get the podcast interview done and dusted—and I’m so damn happy we did! I ended up learning so much from Crystal during the interview. Not only did it cement the fact that I think Crystal is such a badass, it also gave me an opportunity to learn a bit more about Crystal and her upbringing.
Here are a few key takeaways from my interview with Crystal:
- Follow your dreams, because no one else will hand it to you- Crystal literally started selling guinea pigs at the age of 7 because from that young of an age, she realised she was destined for more.
- You don’t always need to live the life your family has planned for you- This point hit me hard. it seems as though when we’re growing up, everyone has a plan for us…except us! If you’re anything like me, I like to go with the flow. Crystal knew from day one that she didn’t want to live the life her family had planned for her, so she went out and did it herself. Brilliant!
- Limit your personal belongings and life will be pretty sweet- At the end of the interview, I asked Crystal what one article is that she carries around with her. Her answer did shock me a bit, but now that I’ve had time to think of it, I think it was a brilliant answer. Nothing. Crystal said she didn’t have an attachment to anything (other than her books) that she would carry around. She lives a simple life, and that’s what I’m personally striving for as well.
All in all, the interview was exactly what I wanted it to be. The Shiv Show is all about people getting to know people, and I hope by now you know a little more about Crystal Benson!
